Pilkington Texture Glass

Pilkington Texture Glass

Overview

A rolled patterned glass, one surface of which has a specific pattern or design impressed into the surface, Pilkington Texture Glass provides obscuration and decoration. All patterns are classified according to their obscuration in relation to each other, the gradation being from 1 (least obscuring) to 5 (most obscuring).

Applications

The designs give scope for combining functional suitability with decorative effect, while emphasizing the natural light-enhancing properties of glass. The glasses can be supplied in toughened or laminated form for safety and incorporated into Insulating Glass Units for thermal insulation or noise control.

Pilkington Texture Glass is translucent, transmitting diffused light while maintaining privacy. It offers a wide selection of alternatives, meeting both functional and aesthetic requirements and may be used for privacy in commercial, industrial and residential buildings. It may also be used for decorative purposes in applications such as doors, partitions and balustrades.

Pilkington Texture Glass Warwick™

This design is unique among our patterns because it is produced using a different manufacturing method. All the others are formed from an embossed roller that takes the design to the edge of the glass in a uniform way.
Pilkington Texture Glass Warwick™ is a random pattern that is added along the central portion of the pane and this has implications when cutting the glass down into finished sizes.

It is possible with that, if a pane is small enough, it could be cut with no evidence of the pattern at all. It is therefore important when cutting and optimizing this glass that the appearance of the finished pane is considered so that the design is central to the pane and, where there are several panes to be glazed adjacent to each other, that the degree of design on each pane is similar.

None of the Pilkington patterns are designed to have an orientation (an upside) but care needs to be taken with adjacent panes that the pattern direction is maintained. There is a linear nature to Pilkington Texture Glass Warwick™ and so householders should be aware that there could be aesthetic implications when choosing this design. Also, for the glass supplier the result may be that this pattern is less accommodating when cutting and may result in a greater proportion of selvedge from the original glass plate.
